Google+ For Fun?

With Google+ you can mix recreation with professional networking.  Google+ Circles gives you the ability to control what you share and what content pops up in your stream.  Circles allows users to drag-and-drop their friends into different friend groups, which categorizes them.  This allows you to put your dad in your “Family” circle, your boss in your “Business” circle and a professional colleague in your “Colleagues” circle.

Google+ 101

Google+ is about connections, data and people. There are two things that matter when it comes to showing up in searches with your Google+ account: where the keywords show up in your profile page and who you are connected to.

Setting Up Your Profile

When creating your Google+ profile pay close attention to the following areas:

  • Introduction
  • Employment
  • Education
  • Places

Other Profiles

Use the "Other Profiles" section to link to your social media home base.

The more high-quality people you have in your Circles that link back to you the better.  Here are a few tips for attracting quality people:

  • Comment on Google+ thought leader posts
  • Focus on a particular thought leader and promote his or her content
  • Fill out your profile fully so people know you are for real when they check you out

Locating Thought Leaders

Use the Google+ search box to locate thought leaders or organizations you would like to follow.
