With ubiquity (of information), the culture changes:
- Mentality shift: as from public phone (or landline) to personal phone
- Teaching assumption shift: from accessing information from books in the public library to having personal access to information (and books) via one's personal electronic device
- Timelines shift: from "Our class meets MWF" to "We see each other all the time and MWF we meet together" - students communicate with faculty 24/7!
- Students' sense of access shifts: from "Maybe I can get that book in the library" to "I have that book in my library" (or via my iPhone or iPad)
- Students use YouTube or have Spotify accounts.
- Students use free online digitized scores (e.g., IMSLP)
- YouTube and Spotify are easier to use than some subscription databases
- Google Scholar easier to use than WorldCat Discovery
- Relationship shift: from a family living in many different states to all family members living in the same town - we can communicate across great distances as though we were in the same state/place.
