Citing Guide for Business Majors (APA 7th ed.)

This LibGuide was created to assist Butler business students with citing sources in APA style (7th edition). 

TIP:  Start with the "Citing Business Sources" menu heading on the left.  Includes examples of how to cite information from business databases.

Before you start your research, always check with your professor on the citation style requirements for your course assignments.  

Please note:

  • This guide is an adaptation of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.), not a substitute for it. 
  • Many of the citing examples in this LibGuide are provided via links to the APA Style website or the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL). 
  • Because the APA Manual and the Purdue OWL site do not provide citing examples for unique business sources, such as an annual report or company profile, some of the examples in the "Citing Guide for Business Majors" LibGuide are based on an interpretation of the APA guidelines. 
  • For some sources, you may need to consult the APA Manual and interpret the rules to the best of your own ability. Copies of the manual are located at the Irwin Library and at the Writers' Studio.

What is APA style?

"APA" refers to the "American Psychological Association."  APA citation style is commonly used by writers in many social science disciplines, including business.

APA Style uses the Author-Date system for citing sources.  Two main parts of APA style:

  1. an in-text citation, and
  2. a corresponding reference list entry.
