This guide is designed to assist students enrolled in PCA 200-Art 01 Introduction to Visual Art with the research necessary to complete the requirements of that course.

Library of Congress Designations for Art Resources

The Butler Libraries maintain a collection of art history resources to support classes offered in art history and aprreciation.  Materials in this area are cataloged in the Library of Congress classification scheme (LC) under the alphabetical designation of "N."  The classification contains the following general subdivisions:

  • N = Visual Arts
  • NA = Architecture
  • NB = Sculpture
  • NC = Drawing
  • ND = Painting
  • NE = Print Media
  • NK = Decorative Arts
  • NX = Arts in General
  • TR = Photography

At Butler, a librarian with appropriate expertise and interest is assigned to be a liaison to each of the major subject areas taught at the University.  Sheri Stormes is the liaison to Butler's Jordan College of Fine Arts and the art history courses associated with it.  She is responsible for ordering materials and answering reference and research questions rrelating to art history and for providing instruction relating to the discovery, evaluation, and use of art history-related materials in the Butler Libraries and elsewhere.

 Sheri is available to assist you with art history research and other questions relating to the library from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Her office is Room 119B on the main floor of the Irwin Library.   Additional contact information is available in the box to the right of this one.

The important thing to remember is:  Sheri is here to help you!  Feel free to contact her with any questions you might have relating to the Library and/or any of its resources for the subjects taught in the Jordan College of Fine Arts!
