Generative AI Grant Stipend Opportunity

Stipend Opportunity: Using Generative AI for Faculty Online

Interested in using generative AI for class activity creation? Learn how you can use AI can help create innovative classroom activities, while being peer-reviewed for high quality.

Butler University's Center for Academic Technology and Libraries received a $12,000 Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) Innovation Grant to develop an open repository of peer-reviewed generative AI class activities where faculty can search for ideas for how to use AI in their discipline. 

All faculty from the 24 PALNI institutions are eligible to participate. Faculty who submit and revise an AI class activity will be eligible for stipends if they meet various deadlines. 

This information session will provide more indepth explanation of the grant, the resources available to faculty, and the submission and review process. 

Streaming AV Resources at Butler University Libraries

Butler University Libraries' Digital Commons is our institutional repository, designed to widen readership, connect with others in your field, and deliver metrics about your work straight to your inbox every month. With a Selected Works account, researchers across the world have access to your work and are able to download articles in accordance with copyright. This hour webinar will demonstrate the ease of using and maintaining a Selected Works profile for your scholarship. We will also be discussing ORCID id's, how to create an ID and add it to your Selected Works profile.

Open Textbooks: Access, Affordability, and Academic Success

Help Lower Textbook Costs for Students

Are you an instructor who is concerned about the impact of high textbook costs on your students? Explore possible open textbook solutions by attending a workshop and writing a short textbook review. Receive a $200 stipend for your efforts!

Did You Know...

  • The high cost of some course materials can impede students’ academic success.
  • The College Board estimates that the average undergraduate can budget $1,240 - $1,440 for textbooks and supplies in 2018–19.
  • The cost of textbooks is rising at a rate of 4 times inflation.
  • Seven out of 10 students don’t purchase a required textbook during their academic career because of cost.
  • 60% of students have delayed purchasing textbooks until they’ve received their financial aid.

Open Textbooks

Open textbooks can help alleviate the burden of textbook costs for students and provide faculty with content that can be customized for their course. Open textbooks are full, real textbooks, used by many faculty across the country, and licensed to be freely used, edited, and distributed.

What You Can Do

Attend the Open Textbook Webinar— a session where you can discover open textbooks in your field. After the workshop, you’ll be asked to write a short review of an open textbook from the Open Textbook Library. Your review will benefit other faculty considering open textbooks, and you will receive a stipend of $200.

We will also be discussing the PALSave Course Redesign Grant, an funded initivative to help faculty redesign their commerically used textbook to an OER based class!

Butler University Library's Open Access Policy and your Author Rights

The Butler University Faculty Senate adopted an open access policy on April 28, 2020. This policy shows Butler University’s commitment to disseminating the fruits of research and scholarship as widely as possible. Open access policies increase authors’ rights, readership and citation rates for scholarly articles. The opt out provision ensures that all faculty authors have the freedom to publish in the journal of their choice. Join us to learn more about the policy and your rights as an author when you're submitting for publication.
