CIC Information Fluency Lunch 'N Learn: Changing Library

This guide will act as an outline for the CIC Information Fluency Development Grant Lunch 'N Learn sessions with Jordan College of the Arts' departments

Our libraries' limitations and challenges ...

  • Space is at a premium!
  • Greater demand for alternative use of spaces [e.g., collaborative learning spaces, classroom spaces, integration of the Center for Academic Technology (CAT), personal study spaces, computer lab, gaming room, etc.]
  • Print/"tangible" resources are experiencing declining use
  • Users value ease of access, convenience above quality of informtion - ?!
  • Connection with Lacy School of Business
  • No plans for new library facility
  • No remote storage (shared or otherwise)

National shift in "library philosophy"

  • "Just in time" rather than "just in case"
  • Demand-driven acquisitions (DDA ; a.k.a., "patron-driven acquisitions")
  • Greater reliance on resource sharing with other libraries (PALNI, ALI, WorldCat Discovery, use of "GreenGlass" to assist with de-selection decisions)
  • Greater emphasis on online accessibility (i.e., electronic resources)
  • Need to develop cooperative collection development agreements / Need to define what we need at Butler
