"si5s is the first and original comprehensive written system for American Sign Language. Nearly 200 years after its creation, American Sign Language is a nationally-recognized language, with a linguistic system unique from English or any other spoken language on earth. Until now, however, no sufficient written form of ASL has been developed, leaving those who use this language without literary expression and the strength that literacy provides. In 2003, Robert Augustus created si5s which provides a system of 80 characters and a collection of grammatical symbols that fully express the elements of ASL. A national movement has begun to make si5s the official written form of ASL."
