Your video will only be accessible to those with Butler log ins. Films on Demand automatically adds the Butler proxy to its links/embed code, so you links should be automatically set up for off-campus access.
STEP 1. In Kanopy you may view any video without an account, but in order to create a video clip (or playlist of clips) you must have a Kanopy account (these are free and easy to make).
Simply click "Sign In" in the upper right corner of the screen, and then either make an account or log in to an existing one.
STEP 2. Once logged in, the options for creating clips and playlists are under "More"
STEP 3. The clip/playlist menu will open to a list of your clip Playlists.
Within this menu, click "Add Video" next to the playlist that you wish to submit your video clip to. This will add a "clip" to the Playlist of the entire film, but don't worry, you'll get to cut it down in the next step.
*Note, Playlists are useful for organizing your clips, be they all the clips for one day's lesson, for one class, or from one Film or theme.
STEP 4. After clicking "Add Video" simply click "Edit Playlist". This will open in a new tab a new menu, with a list of video clips within the selected Playlist. The "Edit" button next to each clip will allow you to narrow the selection. As you can see in this example, clip #1 has been edited down, while the second clips is un-edited (it is still simply the entire film).
*Note, the clips will say "Coming Soon" because you have not given them a thumbnail image. They will work correctly even without this image.
STEP 5. The edit menu will feature text fields (title/description). and below this will be the video player itself.
Beneath the video player are two boxes where exact start/stop times can be entered. If you do not know the exact start and stop times, then while viewing the film in this menu (by clicking play) one may click "Capture" on the top button to begin recording. Clicking "Capture" once more, on the second button, allows you to set the new endpoint of the clip. Within the video player here, you can skip ahead to find the clip, then use the Capture buttons to record.
STEP 6. Kanopy clips can not be independently shared, but instead entire Playlists are.
Within the main Playlist management menu, instead of clicking "Edit Playlist" Choose the Share/Embed option instead. This will create a link through which you can share either the Kanopy version of your playlist, or simply take the code for the playlist to insert into another site (embed).
Unfortunately, Swank Digital Campus does not allow for creation of video clips within the website.
Within Films on Demand, it's easy to grab the permalink -- just look beneath the video image for the Title URL. The Butler permalink has already been applied, so this link will require a Butler log in before it will bring a user to this page.
The AVON permalink option is beneath the video player. Selecting the Embed/Link option will generate a link directly back to the video you'd selected.
Kanopy's Permalink option is under the share tab, which is beneath the view window. The share tab will give you two options: one (called simply "share") will allow you to send a link to the web player of the film, while the second ("embed") will let you place a link for the video directly into any other files you may be creating (a PowerPoint or a class site, for instance).
Swank Digital Campus' Permalink option is to the right, just beneath the view window. There are two copy link options here: one (called 'Copy Direct Link') will allow you to copy the link for the web player of the film for sharing directly with your class, while the second ('Copy LMS Link') will let you copy the link for sharing the video into any other files you may be creating (a PowerPoint or Canvas course, for instance).
