Digital Scholarship Lab

Decorative banner that reads "Digital Scholarship Lab Irwin Library 119A" surrounded by abstract shapes and the Butler University Libraries logo.
Vertical guide title "Digitization: The Process". Boxes read in order: Selection. Decide what you need to scan. Consider what file format you eventually want to use. Evaluation. Determine the condition of the items being scanned, the number of scans needed, the quality of the image needed, and the type of scanner you'll use. Consider any copyright implications. Metadata. Collect information about the items being scanned. What is their title, author, publication year? What collection is it from, or being added to? Scan. Select your settings and get scanning! Post-processing. Adjust the digital files so that they're usable. Crop and deskew images, convert to the right file format, and even run OCR to make the file text-searchable. Quality Review. Double check that your images are crisp, ordered correctly, and that you've scanned everything you need. Save and publish. Save your files to a USB or server. Upload them where needed. Each box in the guide is accompanied by clipart: a magnifying glass, rulers, a notepad and pencil, a camera, scissors, a checklist, and a flash drive.
