This flatbed scanner can scan flat materials like photographs and looseleaf paper, up to 12" x 17" (approx. 30x43 cm).

Epson Expression 12000XL
Like the 11000XL, this flatbed scanner can scan flat materials like photographs and looseleaf paper, up to 12" x 17" (approx. 30x43 cm). It also has a transparency unit, which can scan projector slides and microfiche in a variety of sizes.

Bookeye 4 book scanner

Bookeye 4V1
This overhead scanner features an adjustable book cradle and glass plate that help scan bound materials up to 25" x 33.5" (approx. 63.5x85 cm). It is currently our largest scanner, and can scan flat materials up to 600 dpi.

Zeutschel Zeta scanner

Zeutschel Zeta
This scanner has touch pads that tell the scanner to start a new scan, allowing you to quickly scan multi-page items. Its built-in screen allows you to crop each page as you scan, and can be saved directly to a USB.

Photogrammetry Station
Our photogrammetry station includes a camera stand, adjustable lamps, a lightbox, a turntable, and adjustable tripods. Its dedicated computer station includes 3D modeling software like Meshroom and Metashape Pro. This equipment is jointly held by the Digital Scholarship Lab and Academic Partnerships (also known as the Center for Academic Technology/CAT).

Format Conversions
VHS-to-digital conversion is now available in the lab! You may also convert DVD and VHS to digital files using general library equipment in Irwin Library's computer lab on the first floor. Check out all of our offerings in the Rich Media Area while you're there!

Microfilm
The Rich Media Area also has a digital microfilm reader, which can create downloadable files of microfilm images.

There are three standard computer stations in the Digital Scholarship Lab in Irwin Library.

  • Two computers connected to flatbed scanners
  • One computer at the photogrammetry station

All computers in the lab are Windows PC computers.

In addition to the standard software available on lab computers across Butler campus, additional software has been installed on computers in the Digital Scholarship Lab to support digitization activities.

Flatbed scanner stations

  • IrfanView, a lightweight image viewer and editor
  • Epson Scan & Epson Scan 2, scanning software to connect to the scanners

Photogrammetry station

  • Meshroom
  • Metashape & Metashape Pro
