Digital Scholarship Lab

Mission and History

Butler University's Digital Scholarship Lab hosts a collaborative space of specialized digitization equipment and resources to promote and empower a community of practice at the intersection of scholarship and technology.

Digitization has long been a service provided by Butler University Libraries, from printer-scanner stations in the reference area in first-floor Irwin Library to remote and asynchronous classroom needs supported by CAT in recent years. The Digital Scholarship Lab now aims to expand on existing expertise to explore digital scholarship with students, faculty and staff.

Butler University's Digital Scholarship Lab began in 2018 with student and faculty interest in using technology to enhance research projects and create new knowledge. Centrally located on first floor Irwin Library, the DSL now offers access to four specialized scanners and space for photogrammetry (object photography and 3-D modeling) that can digitize nearly any material.

We also strive to collaborate with instructors to incorporate digital preservation into curricular activities. Beyond digital preservation of Butler's existing holdings, we hope to expand our expertise towards your ideas to make them flourish.
