Carefully read agreements before you sign them. If you are not satisfied with the agreement, you can always renegotiate the terms or submit your work elsewhere. Some things to consider:
- Does the agreement allow you to reuse your own work for teaching and future scholarship?
- Does it allow for redistribution through open access outlets? (i.e. BU Digital Commons)
- Balance prestige of the publication against your academic rank and the terms of the contract.
