Butler Libraries provide access to many different kinds of ebooks, with varying access models depending on the ebook provider. Please use the guidance below to determine what level of access is available for a particular ebook.
Ebooks available on the following platforms always have unlimited user access:
Note: This is not an exhaustive list.
Determining the access level of an ebook on ProQuest Ebook Central may take a few steps, depending on the ebook. This is because ProQuest licenses ebooks at varying access levels, and because Butler Libraries has both a Demand Driven Acquisition (DDA) plan and a subscription ebook collection through Ebook Central.
On this platform, you can find ebooks that the library has licensed at the following levels:
You will also find ebooks that the library has not licensed yet, but are part of our DDA pool. Ebooks in the DDA pool are either mediated (i.e. request required for purchase) or unmediated (i.e. no request required, a purchase is automatically made after a certain amount of use).
Check the "Availability" section at the top an ebook's page in Ebook Central to help determine the access level.
