The Birds of Sorrow: Giving Voice to Loss in an Age of Pandemic - Irwin Library, April 2025

In partnership with the Jordan College of the Arts, Butler University Libraries offers this temporary Makerspace focused on processing grief through creative outlet.

Here patrons can engage with textile and fabric arts to construct their own 12 in x 12 in quilt square.  These squares are part of a larger Butler community project on loss and the arts and will be stitched into a community quilt for deposit in the University Archives.  Patrons will have the choice whether to contribute to this archival quilt, or to take the square home with them.

The Makerspace is open all hours that Irwin Library is open in April, and will have basic tutorials and a small print and eBook library of patterns available.

There will be in-person assistance for those wishing additional guidance around quilt square construction:

4/4/25 10am to 6pm (offered by Wendy Meaden and the students of TH382 (Creative Textiles))
