Using WorldCat Discovery in LibGuides

You have options for using WorldCat Discovery within your Guides:

1.  Reuse a box listed on this page.

Add a new box, and then select the Reuse Existing Box option. Variations of the WorldCat Discovery search box are housed in *Butler LibGuides: Standards & Best Practices. Whenever possible, please do not check the box to create a copy. If you feel you need the ability to edit the search text, we suggest using the Widget option described below.

2. Reuse the WorldCat Discovery search box widget.

This allows you to add the search box as an item within a box, so you still have the ability to add content before or after. To do this, click on the Add/Reorder option within a box. Select Media/Widget, then click on the Reuse Existing Widget tab. Search for WorldCat Discovery Widget. Again, please create mapped copies by NOT checking the copy box.

3.  Add WorldCat Discovery as a Database.

Remember, you can still enter a custom description if you select this option.

Whenever possible, do NOT:

  • Hyperlink to WorldCat Discovery within your text
  • Use the Link option to create a link to WorldCat Discovery

If you have questions, please feel free to ask Josh.

Updates we hope to make in the near future:

  • Search boxes with limiters already applied (for example, a search already limited to Butler Libraries, or our eBook collections, etc)
  • Additional search boxes for other common tools (suggestions welcome)
