To get your library card:

Check with your public library for their requirements, but you usually just need to bring in some proof that you are you and that you live in the area served by the library, such as

• A current photo ID
• A document that includes your address (such as a current piece of mail addressed to you)

When you have a library card  . . .

you have access to books in your local public library and often in many other libraries as well!

• some libraries are part of a larger group of libraries that share collections
  • an example in Indiana is Evergreen Indiana
• some libraries participate in Interlibrary Loan which means that they borrow from and lend to many other libraries around the country
  • examples include The Indianapolis Public Library and Allen County Public Library, but there are many more
