You can link Library databases and LibGuides directly into your Canvas site.  The following links provide a listing of these resources:

2. Select LibApps Single Course.
3. Select the Drop-down menu next to Content Type.
4. Select a whole LibGuide.
or
Select a particular database via the A-Z Directory.

By linking to our resources via the Canvas External Tool, the Library maintains the links – you don’t have to!

Direct Linking to the Article, eBook, Media

Link directly to a journal article, ebook, or streaming media film/movie in Canvas

Want to link directly to a library subscription journal article, ebook, or streamed film?  Our Libraries' online catalog and subscription databases provide persistent links directly to these resources. These links include OpenAthens authentication URLs to ensure that only Butler students, faculty, and staff have access to the resources.

Look for a 'Persistent Link' option in our databases (see examples below) for the article or ebook you want to link to in Canvas:

Need help identifying a persistent link? Consult with your Course Designer or Subject Librarian for assistance with this.

OpenAthens

Use of OpenAthens for authentication to resources

Butler Libraries uses OpenAthens to handle authentication for library online resources - this is how content platforms know you are affiliated with the University and should have access to our materials. As mentioned above, most of the links to resources we maintain should already be set up to authenticate via OpenAthens properly. We also have an OpenAthens Link Generator Tool available in order to convert a links into the proper format.

Additionally, OpenAthens authentication can sometimes be accessed directly from major publisher platforms by selecting the Log In or Login with My Institution option, and searching for Butler University. The site should route you through Butler authentication, and then give you access.

The purpose of properly formatted links is to ensure your online students can access Butler-licensed content as seamlessly as possible. If you have questions about your content links, contact Charlotte Peterson (cpeterson1@butler.edu) or fill out our problem reporting form.
