A guide for Butler+ faculty to learn how to incorporate library resources and services into their course delivery.

Can I order Library Materials?

Ordering Resources

Butler Libraries aims to support the undergraduate, graduate, and certificate curriculua as much as possible, given publisher licensing restrictions and cost.  In general:

  • Butler Libraries does not actively acquire traditional textbooks, either due to cost limitations, or because publishers frequently restrict purchases to individuals only. That being said, read the subsequent bullet points!
  • We are happy to assist with locating open educational resources (OER) which may take the place of a traditional textbook, and support open publishing using our platforms.
  • We encourage Butler faculty to use our existing e-journal and ebook holdings as sources of articles, chapters, or full books as assignments in their courses, in order to reduce costs to students, and democratize access to students.
  • Faculty and Course Designers can use our online catalog to discover these resources; contact your subject librarian to confirm whether the desired resources have been fully purchased/licensed, or are simply rent-to-own, and whether any usage restrictions apply.

Check with your Subject Librarian to discuss ebook, journal article, and streaming media needs.  You don't know what is possible until you ask!
