Panopto Recorder (Mac) Intro

Panopto allows a user to easily record audio, video, and screens or applications with their desktop application. You can launch Panopto by going to butler.hosted.panopto.edu, through the desktop application, or through Canvas. Below details the process of starting your video through these two different ways as well as a short tutorial on how to record with Panopto for Mac.

Process through Panopto Mac

  1.  To install Panopto, login to butler.hosted.panopto.com with your Butler credentials.

  2.  Select "Download Panopto" in the top right below your name. Another option is to select "Create" in the navigation top bar and then select "Panopto for Mac."

  3. Proceed to download and install Panopto on your device. On macOS 10.14 or later, you might get a security prompt. Click "Ok" on the warning, otherwise no video uploads will complete successfully.

  4. Once installation is complete, open the desktop application, and you can begin recording! Make sure to sign in to your Panopto Account.

  5.  Another way to access Panopto is to sign in to butler.hosted.panopto. com and Select "Create" in the navigation top bar and then select "Panopto for Mac."

  6.  Record and upload your video!

Process through Canvas

  1. Navigate to your course in Canvas to the assignment you need to submit.

  2.  In the submission page, select the Panopto icon.

  3.  Select the "Record" tab and choose the folder for your video. Choose a title for your recording and select "Launch App."
      
     
  4.  Record and upload your video!

System Requirements

OS Version: Mac OSX versions 10.15, supported. Mac OSX versions 10.14, 10.13 recommended. See this supported version matrix for further details. 

Note: Screen capture preview is disabled on macOS 10.12 and 10.13.

Processor: Standard Quality: Intel Core i3 or Core M recommended - Default Setting. High or Ultra Quality: Quad-Core Intel Core i7 recommended.

Panopto for Mac 5.0 is expected to work on most Mac systems running Mac OSX version 10.11. This includes a Primary audio and video stream and a single secondary video (screen capture) with the quality level set to the default ‘Standard Resolution’.

Memory: 4GB RAM

Storage: Standard Quality: 270MB per hour. High Quality: 540MB per hour
